How would you feel if the pilot of your airplane was hired because of her ethnicity or gender, rather than her ability to fly an airplane? How would you feel if you were hired for one of those reasons, instead of for your ability to do a job, especially if you had spent years working to gain the knowledge and skills to do the job well? Low expectations for certain groups of people is soft-bigotry and it’s unfair to hire or promote anyone for any reason other than their qualifications. When the Founders said that all men are created equal, they didn’t just mean that everyone’s rights should be respected. They also meant that everyone should be held to the same standards.
